One lozenge, held under the tongue until it dissolves. Photograph is illustrative.

The instructions are simple, but a few details decide whether you get anything out of a pack — and most new users get at least one of them wrong.

The basic routine

  1. One lozenge a day, preferably after a meal.
  2. Let it dissolve slowly. Do not chew, do not swallow it whole.
  3. Wait a few minutes before eating or drinking.
  4. Be consistent. Same time each day is easiest to remember.

Why you must not chew it

The entire rationale for a lozenge is contact time. The tissue inside your mouth is thin and richly supplied with blood vessels, so some compounds can be absorbed there rather than passing through the digestive tract. Crunch it and you have simply eaten a small sweet with plant extract in it.

A drop should take several minutes to dissolve. If yours are gone in thirty seconds, you are chewing without realising it.

Morning or night?

It depends on the formula rather than on any rule:

  • Morning — GRW, GTS, BRN, LFT, AIR. Anything you want working through the day.
  • Evening — RLX, and often SLD or STP if the day has been physical.
  • After a meal — MLS, ICE, HPR. Digestive formulas make most sense alongside food.
  • Anytime — BTY, HPY, NRM, PWR, ALT, HRT.

Combining formulas

The label permits up to four a day and pairing is common — GRW in the morning with RLX at night is the classic. Two things to keep in mind. Formulas share ingredients, so taking several does not stack their benefits neatly; you may just be taking more of the same botanicals. And each lozenge carries about 1g of sugar, so four a day is 4g. For most people two is a sensible ceiling.

Your first thirty days

If you want an honest answer about whether these work for you, run it like a small experiment rather than a hope.

  1. Buy one pack, not a bundle. One variable at a time.
  2. Write down one or two things you are tracking before you start — afternoon energy, sleep quality, whatever matters to you. Memory is unreliable and expectation is powerful.
  3. Take it every day. Missing four days out of thirty makes the result meaningless.
  4. Judge at the end of the pack. Not at day four.

Worst case you have spent $35 and you know. That is a fair price for an answer.

Storage

  • Cool and dry — heat softens the caramel base and they stick together.
  • Keep the packaging sealed; humidity ruins a hard lozenge.
  • Check the expiry date, especially if you bought from a third-party marketplace.
  • Store out of reach of children. They look and taste like sweets.

Before you start

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist first if you take prescription medication — particularly blood thinners, blood pressure medication, or anything affecting blood glucose. Licorice root and ginkgo both appear in this range and both interact with common prescriptions. “Natural” does not mean “inert.”

Do not start any new botanical supplement while pregnant or breastfeeding without medical approval, and ask a pediatrician before giving these to a child.
